Overview

Samburu National Reserve is located at the Northern part of Kenya, on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River, which flows through doum palm groves and thick riverine forests. Together with Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserve, they form an unmatched triumvirate of wildlife paradise.

The reserve is a unique wildlife conservation haven for rare species such as the Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Somali Ostrich and the Gerenuk. It is also home to other predators such as the lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dogs, crocodiles, elephants, black rhino and over 450 bird species.

Samburu is considered a gem among discerning safari goers because it is relatively uncrowded. Once inside the reserve, there are two visible mountains: Mount Ololokwe and Mount Koitogor.

Did you know that the reserve was once home to the world’s famous Kamunyak, the lioness that adopted 6 beisa oryx calves and fought off predators that attempted to eat her adoptees?

Depart Nairobi at 6.30 am. A short stopover at Nanyuki for comfort breaks. Later, proceed to the semi-arid area of Samburu county. Upon arrival at the lodge, check-in and have lunch. Thereafter, have an afternoon game drive at the Samburu National Reserve.

The Samburu ecosystem is rich in wildlife and the special five such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx. Ewaso Nyiro river which runs along the southern boundary is also home to resident hippos and crocodiles. Return to the lodge and relax.

Dinner & Overnight at the Lodge.

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve

Have breakfast, freshen up and proceed to the park for a morning game drive. Famous for its large elephant population, the reserve stands out as a unique and diverse wilderness. Thereafter, return to the lodge and have lunch. We recommend that you have lunch at the hotel, since Samburu is very hot.

After lunch, take a dip in the pool. A visit to Samburu is incomplete without a cultural tour to a nearby village. Unlike many other tribes in Kenya, the Samburu community are pastoralists; they live by herding cattle and goats. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a memorable experience. Return to the lodge and relax.

Dinner & Overnight at the Lodge.

Day 3: Samburu - Nairobi

After breakfast, freshen up and check-out with a final game drive. A short stopover for comfort breaks and embark on the journey to Nairobi.
